Five Islands. Five Days. Five Iron Distance Triathlons… EPIC

The 2012 EPIC5 Challenge will be led by an international contingent across the Hawaiian island chain on a 703 mile physical, mental and spiritual journey.

This year’s athletes: Matty Cunningham (USA), Pep Sanchez Delgado (Spain, www.irontriax.com), Carlos Llano Fernandez (Spain, www.cllano.com), Mike Flartey (USA, www.mikeflartey.com), Sebastian Soto (Chile, http://chilean-ultraman.blogspot.com) and Jason Lester (USA, www.jasonplester.com) will test the extreme limits of human endurance, with an attempt to complete five iron distance triathlons on five Hawaiian islands in five consecutive days. On Kauai, Casey McGraw will participate as the island’s charity slot athlete; on the Big Island, Laurie Beers & Cory Faulk will participate as charity slot athletes. Island relay teams will be part of the journey in Kaua’i – Lisa Ledesma & Joe Kali; O’ahu – Stefan Reinke, Lindsey Dymond & Rick Varley; and Moloka’i – Wil Carlson, Eliah Reyes & Jess Ford.

The brainchild of Jason P. Lester, the EPIC5 Challenge, in its third year, is an unprecedented athletic and spiritual odyssey which begins this year on October 24 on the island of Kauai, then traveling consecutive days to O’ahu, Moloka’i and Maui, and finally concluding in Kona on October 28th. Each day will entail a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run.

All athletes are encouraged to raise funds for the non-profit charity of their choice, or to join Jason in raising funds for the Never Stop Foundation. A strong advocate for providing opportunities to children, Lester created The Never Stop Foundation whose primary focus is on encouraging youth to achieve their full potential through athletics. The goal of the foundation is to help those in their formative years find their own true voice, help them build their confidence, improve their communication skills and learn the values of discipline, trust, compassion, self-reliance, and respect.
